Mohit Sharma pips Ishant Sharma to post, enters India World Cup squad
An old Urdu proverb described an incident where an imaginary bird (huma) sits on a pauper’s head who happened to enter a city state rather mistakenly. He was made the king of the state, said the story.
The same seems to have happened with Mohit Sharma a little known Indian bowler. Ishant Sharma was all set to lead the Indian bowling attack in the ICC World Cup 2015. But somehow or the other he failed the detailed and rather tough fitness test. This opened a gateway for Rohit to sneak into the Indian team in the World Cup.
Twenty six year old Mohit Sharma has played only 12 one day international matches and has taken just 10 wickets. This is rather surprising that in the presence of many bowlers he has been preferred by the team management including the captain. It is yet to be seen if he is going to prove his worth in the coming days.
Ishant Sharma is also 26 year old but has represented India in as many as 76 one day matches. He has also scalped 106 wickets. Many experts are claiming that Mohit doesn’t fit the bill as far as representing the nation in such an important series.
To be true right now Indian bowling seems to be very weak even going by the standard of Indian bowling. With Ishant who is the senior-most pacer out of contention, another pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also reportedly suffering from injury issues. He is also not hundred percent it. Now the pressure is going to be on Mohit and Mohammad Shami besides of course Umesh Yadav.
The good thing is the fact that Mohit actually bowled an economical spell during the only appearance that he made during the recently concluded Triangular series. He gave 36 runs while took two wickets in ten overs that he bowled.
