Mobilegeddon: Penny wise, dollar fool, go get a mobile site

‘Mobilegeddon’ is all set to arrive beginning today. And if you happen to be among the ones who don’t have a mobile-friendly site, you or rather your website is doomed.

This is because of the fact that search giant Google will start directing all searches coming from mobile devices namely tablets and smartphones to ‘‘mobile-friendly’’ websites.

This is going to change the dynamics of internet search altogether. It is needless to say that this change in Google policy is going to bring in major transformation in how websites are ranked on your smartphone and tablet.

It is needless to say that if your website is not mobile friendly, you are going to suffer badly.

google officeWay back in February, the search giant had announced that it would change its search algorithm beginning April. Smartphone-ready sites include large text that is easy to read on small screens, well-spaced links, and mobile-friendly plug-ins.

The search giant says that users ‘‘will find it easier to get relevant, high-quality search results that are optimized for their devices.’’

It is needless to say that it is going to be make or break for your business. Mobile traffic makes up an estimated 60 percent of Web traffic, a 2014 ComScore report said. And more of Google’s advertising revenue depends on mobile traffic. Those trends indicate a majority of consumers have switched to mobile. So if you haven’t gone mobile as yet, go now.
