Are we set to witness the demise of Lumia brand of smartphone? While Nokia’s smartphone business was taken over by Redmond based tech giant, Lumia continued to be the brand of the smartphones that Microsoft churned out.

Now there are reasons to believe that Microsoft is going to kill Lumia brand and instead launch a completely new brand for its smartphone business. Reports suggest that Microsoft is going to mould its smartphones on its successful tablet brand under Surface name.

Despite the rumors being around for a long time, Microsoft has not yet disclosed anything about these speculations. In the meantime, Lumia 650 will be the last handset under the Lumia brand. The handset will feature a 5-inch 720 screen display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, Snapdragon 210 processor, 5 megapixel front-facing camera and rear-facing 8 megapixel camera.

A report in the Geeksnack says Microsoft will try to give a new lease of life to its sales by providing an all-new high-end hardware with finest design device using surface monogram. Speculations of the said Surface phone have been swirling the web. It all started when an advertisement on Reddit found that surfacephone.com redirected to Microsoft’s general Surface page.

There is no denying the fact that Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book have grown within the last quarter of the previous year but they are the modest contributors. According to Microsoft, Surface devices produced up to 20 percent more or $1.35 billion in an annual basis. Though it is still not confirmed, Lumia 650 is reportedly to be up and dependable. Tech leaker Evan Blass shared a photo of the rumored smartphone and teased about the last Lumia device.
