Microsoft launches Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL: Cheapest 4G LTE handsets/ phablets

Microsoft is working real hard to catch up with the smartphone market leaders. But this is going to be much more difficult than coming up with a software update, in case it develops a snag.

While it may be the market leader with overwhelming market share in operating system for your desktops and laptops, it is still a minor player in the smartphone and tablet market despite buying Finnish smartphone maker Nokia.

The company has introduced its very impressive looking and mid-range Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL smartphones. The company had showcased both the handsets at the Mobile World Congress and now the handsets have been introduced in the Indian market. While both are mid-range, one is lower level mid-range handset the other one is higher level.

Lumia 640 and 640 XLAs per the company announcement, Microsoft Lumia 640 has been priced at Rs 11,999 in the Indian market while the Lumia 640 XL has been priced at Rs 15,799. Reports suggest that both these devices will be available starting today, with the Lumia 640 being a Flipkart exclusive whereas the Lumia 640 XL will be available everywhere. So finally the company too has fallen for the lure of Flipkart. The country’s top e-retailer that just lost Xiaomi’s exclusive deal has now another client to brag about.

When it comes to specifications Lumia 640 comes with 5-inch HD display, it packs in an 8-megapixel rear snapper with LED flash and a 1-megapixel front-facing camera. There’s an option for dual-SIM card slots. When it comes to processor, the handset comes with 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM and 2,500 mAh battery to give it a reliable battery backup.

On the other hand, the Lumia 640 XL is a massive phablet and comes with a 5.7-inch display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a 13-megapixel camera with Zeiss optics and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. This handset looks very enticing and its camera quality is going to be nothing short of exceptional. When it comes to processor, the handset comes with 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM besides a massive 3,000mAh battery.

As far as operating system is concerned, the two handsets run Windows Phone 8.1 and also gets the Lumia Denim update, offering features such as Live Folders, one-swipe Action Center and Word Flow. Both the handsets come with 8GB internal storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.
