Mayweather Jr stripped off WBO title for being too miser, refuses to pay $200k

Though Manny Pacquiao failed to beat the best pound for pound fighter of our time, Floyd Mayweather Jr, but the win cannot ensure that he keeps the welterweight world champion title.

The governing body of the title the World Boxing Organisation has stopped recognizing Floyd Mayweather Jr as its welterweight world champion as the body said that the unbeaten boxer has not paid it a mandatory $200,000 that it charges as sanction fee.

Mayweather who destroyed the second best boxer in the world Manny Pacquiao in the last fight has reportedly been stripped of the title he won rather so easily from a unanimous-decision victory over Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on May 2. Reports suggest that he was given a Friday deadline to pay the WBO a sanction fee taken from the bout’s reported 300million US dollar that he earned from that singer fight of the century.

To be true, this is a pittance for riches he owns, but for Mayweather it seemed too high a price. So he preferred the money and gave up the crown that everyone knows he owns.

He is the master of the world boxing at the moment. He has beaten all the top of the line boxers here at the moment. Even now the champion remains the welterweight and super welterweight champion with the WBC and WBA respectively, but boxers are forbidden from holding world titles across multiple weight classes and the WBO had asked him to relinquish the belts.

The association released a statement on its website saying, “In the present case, Mr Mayweather Jr failed to pay the 200,000 US dollar fee required of him as a participant of a WBO World Championship Contest…Despite affording Mr Mayweather Jr the courtesy of an extension to advise us of his position within the WBO Welterweight Division and to vacate the two 154-pound world titles he holds, the WBO World Championship Committee received no response from him or his legal representatives on this matter….The WBO World Championship Committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr Floyd Mayweather Jr as the WBO Welterweight Champion of the World and vacate his title, for failing to comply with our WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests”.
