Massive Antarctic ice shelf to disappear within 5 years

Antarctic is going to lose a large chunk of its ice within the next few years. Scientists have said that a massive ice shelf that partially disintegrated in the year 2002 will completely disappear by the end of the year 2020.

The ice shelf is so massive that it can house a couple of cities. NASA scientists have said that the ice shelf that is about 1600 Sq. KM area with 500 meters thickness will not survive beyond 2020.

Scientists are of the opinion that the temperature that is going through the roof will have serious repercussions not just in habituated areas, but also in Antarctic and other huge ice beds of the world. The scientists are worried over the fast pace at which the temperature is going up due to climate change across the world. One major repercussion of increased temperature will be a substantial increase in the seal levels across the globe.Antarctic2

NASA that has been keeping an eye on the ice surface around the world released a series of images in the year 2002 that showed the drastic and substantial decrease in the Ice surface of different glaciers. Now according to scientists the estimates on the life of the glacier are further reduced by a substantial crack that is running across the glacier and would eventually crack the entire glacier dumping thousands of tons of ice in to the sea.
