Maryam Khan gets third prize at International Conference
Aligarh: Ms Maryam Khan, Research Scholar at the Department of Biochemistry, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded third prize in the Scientific Poster presentation competition, held during the International Conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Biomedical Sciences’. She is the only student of the Department of Biochemistry to win a place in the competition.
The scientific poster, presented by Ms Maryam, was based on her research work entitled ‘Graphene based Magnetic Nanocomposites as versatile carriers for high yield immobilization and stabilization of β-galactosidase’. During the presentation, which was attended by eminent scientists from around the world, she discussed about the use of graphene sheets as an immobilization matrix because of the large surface area provided and the efficient adsorption of the enzyme.
Earlier, Ms Maryam secured second prize in the Science Modeling competition held at Department of Physics, AMU as part of the National Science Day celebrations. She also received Maulana Azad National Fellowship for her academic achievements.
Ms Maryam is pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Professor Qayyum Hussain at the Department of Biochemistry with Nanobiotechnology as the thrust area of her research work.
