Marathon and Seminar for Cancer awareness among school children
ALIGARH: The Department of Radiotherapy, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with the â€œWings of Desire (WOD)â€, an NGO organized a Marathon and Seminar on Cancer Awareness for school children. The former Olympian Mr. Syed Shahid Hakeem flagged off the Marathon race.
The marathon for both boys and girls started from Ghanta Ghar and Aligarh Public School, respectively and ended at the University Convention Centre, where several senior and prominent citizens of Aligarh welcomed the participants. Students with different chest-sticker numbers had to collect a token from the mid-point of the race.
During the seminar, Professor Shahid Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of Radiotherapy, Dr. S. Mohsin Raza, senior consultant surgeon and Dr. Md. Kashif Razi briefed the audience about cancer and its consequences. Professor Zakia Ather Siddiqui, patron, â€œWODâ€, honoured Padma Shri Professor Syed Zillur Rahman, Former Olympian Mr. Syed Shahid Hakeem, Professor Shahid Siddiqui, Dr. S. Mohsin Raza, Dr. Kashif Razi and all winners of the marathon, while Professor S Zillur Rahman and Mr. Sameer Sherwani, president, â€œWODâ€, honoured Ms. Poonam Bajaj, a local social worker and Professor Zakia Siddiqui, respectively during the felicitation ceremony.
The program was compeered by Mr. Ziaul Hasan, Editor, Sir Ziauddin Hall Magazine. Several advisors and volunteers of â€œWODâ€ such as Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Mr. Sahil Usmani, Ms. Sakit Gautam, Mr. Azim Khan, Mr. Arbab Husain, Ms. Madhuri Vashisht and Ms. Swati Dixit were also present during the function.
