Lyrid meteor shower 2015 peak time on Wednesday: Watch live on Slooh
If you are a meteor enthusiast and love to watch the illuminated meteors falling from sky, this is the best time to spend in the midst of these meteors. Lyrids meteors, one of the best meteors, at this time of the year are all set to illuminate the sky and sky-watchers are not going to miss this once in a year opportunity.
There is no denying the fact that Lyrids Meteor Shower will be the most important attraction for the stargazers in the next two nights. Though the annual meteor shower actually begins April 16 it will reach peak tonight and Wednesday night.
But you will have to be patient to watch the meteors fall from the sky. This is because of the fact that the best view of the meteors will be just before dawn on Thursday morning. The spectacle occurs when the Earth passes through the dust left over from the comet C/186 G1 Thatcher, which makes a full orbit of the sun once every 415 years.
You will be able to watch around 10 and 20 meteors per hour at its peak. Slooh astronomer Bob Berman in a statement said “This year the moon will be a waxing crescent only 1/15th the brightness of a full moon, and it will set early, allowing excellent dark sky conditions for this showerâ€.
A report while talking about the best view of the meteors suggest that the best views will be in Europe, but people all across the globe should be able to catch some of the dazzling Lyrid fireballs by heading outside just before dawn. Slooh will be livestreaming the shower.
