941 Lufthansa flights cancelled: Reasons and everything you need to know
If you are among the people who were flying today on Lufthansa, you are in for a rude shock. Latest reports suggest that Lufthansa has cancelled as many as 941 flights, giving tough time to flyers in the process.
Sources suggest that the airline company has cancelled over 900 flights Friday. The company had to resort to cancellation amid an ongoing strike by its employees.
The flight cancellation has been necessitated following a strike by flight attendants. This week alone the German airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG has cancelled as many as 4,700 flights, making it very tough for as many as half a million people. Today’s cancellation alone will impact around a hundred thousand people.
While expressing regret, Lufthansa said in a statement, “We regret that we must publish a special flight schedule for 13.11.2015 as well…The company will do its utmost to keep the effects of a strike to a minimum and to inform passengers as soon as possible.â€
Lufthansa has been facing protests by the cabin crew union. The union has said that without acceptance of its demand it will continue to disrupt services. Independent Flight Attendant’s Organization (UFO) has been demanding secure transition payments for its 19,000 members, in case they retire early.
An Associated Press report says that the clash between the administration and Lufthansa employees was caused due to the fact that the airliner is trying to restructure and develop the Eurowings division into a low-cost service.
