You cannot write the team off till such players are part of the opposite side. Lionel Messi magisterial lesson during Barcelona vs AC Milan was a huge plus point for his side

Barcelona overwhelmed AC Milan to complete a historic comeback to reach its sixth straight Champions League quarterfinals. Lionel Messi scored 2-0brilliant first half goals which proved to be a historic performance.

Lionel Messi scored the first two goals in the fifth and 40th minutes, and the second half goals were scored by David Villa and Jordi Alba leading to a 4-2 aggregate win.

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez said, “It had been a long time since we had pulled off a historic comeback. We pressed them very well and played an exceptional match.”

Messi scored the first fifth minute goal  to goalkeeper Christian Abbiati’s right with a left footed shot from Xavi Hernandez’s pass and the second 40th minute goal after Andres Iniesta wrap the ball, moving into lone control of second on the Champions League career scoring list with 58 goals.

“We went out gunning from the start, and scoring early helped us,” David Villa said. “We have believed in the comeback ever since we lost in Milan, and belief combined with hard work is how you achieve things.”

“We came out flying from the very beginning; We looked for our first goal from the starting whistle. We believed we could turn the tie around, and with that attitude a lot can be accomplished,” Villa added. “We’re very pleased for the fans. They have always believed in us and they haven’t criticized us along the way.”

David Villa put Barcelona at the forefront in the series in the 55th minute with a 14-yard shot after Cristian Zapata’s weak clearance was interrupted by Javier Mascherano, and Kevin Constant missed a sliding attempt on Xavi’s through pass to the forward.

“Beyond the result and moving on to the next round, we have returned to our origins, and that is what we must feel most satisfied about,” Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano said in a statement. “The fact that we strung together some bad games undermined our confidence and our way of playing. On Tuesday, our fans went home knowing that they had seen their team again.”

Jordi Alba scored the winning second half goal and Barcelona reached the Champions League’s quarterfinals for the sixth season.

“Milan only needed a goal, but we knew how to handle the game very well,” Jordi Alba said. “This is a very important win for us. A lot was at stake.”

The seven time champion, AC Milan, lost the game because of team’s lack of ball control that led Barcelona to take over the game and keep almost every action in the final third of the pitch.

“Barcelona is still the best team in the world. Moving on was a true feat,” Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri saidin a statement. “The first leg didn’t change these two teams, and whoever thought so was wrong. We played worse than in the first leg, but that is to Barcelona’s credit.”

The Argentine certainly proved that four time world champion, Lionel Messi had nothing wrong with him and he is not out of form. And after this performance he shut everyone’s mouth who had earlier doubted on him claiming that he was out of form.

“For anyone who doubted Messi, today Messi gave a lesson on how to play football,” exclaimed Barcelona assistant coach Jordi Roura, who had taken the charge since January, while manager Tito Vilanova is in New York for treatment for a throat tumour. “He is extraordinary, and surrounded by great players, he is capable of doing what he does.”
