Presidential elections 2016: Bernie Sanders wins Maine Democratic caucuses poll, latest update
AUGUSTA, Maine: Democratic officials in Maine have accepted that the huge turnout in the state in favor of Vermont senator Bernie Sanders was bigger than what Obama attracted in the state.
As the results have arrived, it is clear that Sen. Bernie Sanders has notched another huge victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Maine’s Democratic presidential caucuses.
Exit polls suggest that Bernie Sanders beat Clinton by a margin of nearly 2 to 1. He told supporters in Portland this past week that he’d win if there was a strong turnout.
Democratic analysts in the state are amazed over his huge appeal. The turnout was so big Sunday that some voters had to wait in line for more than four hours in Portland. The vote came a day after Texas Sen. Ted Cruz won the GOP caucuses. Unlike Saturday’s GOP caucuses, the results aren’t binding.
