Oscars 2016 Complete Winners List: What Leonardo DiCaprio Said in His Oscar Speech (Watch Video)

Many people might have given up hope of winning an Oscar after being denied so many times in the past. Despite being nominated six times, he always ended up being denied the Oscar.

But he never gave up. Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor who comes with a never-say-die spirit. He never gives up and continues to give his best despite all the odds staked against him.

Even this year when almost everyone was sure that he will win the best actor award, Leonardo DiCaprio himself was not sure.

Leonardo-DiCaprioAfter being denied what was due in the past so often, hopes don’t come back so easily. So when his name was announced during the Academy Award 2016, while everyone was applauding, he stood still speechless. He was looking incredulous as trying to decipher as if it was his name that had been announced.

Later talking on the occasion that winning an Oscar was his dream since he was four year old. And looking like he was trying to control just how ecstatic he was, Leo told the waiting crowd in the press room how his humble beginnings in nearby east Los Angeles had made him feel somewhat of a stranger in Hollywood.

While talking to the media he said, “Look, I grew up in east Los Angeles. I was very close to the Hollywood studio system”. He went on to add, “But I felt detached from it my whole life, and to have had parents that have allowed me to be a part of this industry, to take me on auditions every day after school and to tell stories like this has been my dream ever since I was four years old, and this film to me was exemplary in the sense that I got to work with the director and all the things we spoke about off-camera during the making of this movie transferred their way onscreen”.
