Kepler Space Telescope: KIC 8462852 could be an alien megastructure, but nothing is conclusive

Has NASA stumbled upon another civilization rivaling earth or even bigger and better than the world we live in? While not much can be said conclusively about it as it is too far away from our universe, the whole world seems to be talking about it.

Space and scientific community is super excited about the latest news. There is no denying the fact that they are justified in being so much excited. Every news about aliens and earth like planets is always met with great enthusiasm by space fans throughout the world. Excitement is bound to go through the roof when there are reports of a whole civilization rivaling earth tucked away in a very distant part of universe.

NASA says that its Kepler Space Telescope has detected unusual light pattern in KIC 8462852 that suggests a large number of objects actually orbiting it in tight formation. Though it may be anything, experts believe that there is possibility of an alien megastructure designed to harness energy from the star.

keplerNow as the photos of KIC 8462852 released by NASA are being studied by astronomers across the world, there are people who believe that mysterious objects surrounding KIC 8462852 could be an alien megastructure. NASA has said on earlier occasions too that its Kepler is trying to collect data on this star for four years and detected an unusual light pattern. Scientists who studied the star, which is located about 1,480 light years away from Earth, found that it emits light pattern far stranger than those seen on other stars.

Yale Postdoc and study researcher Tabetha Boyajian and his associates say, “KIC 8462852 was observed to undergo irregularly shaped, aperiodic dips in flux down to below the 20% level. The dipping activity can last for between 5 and 80 days…We determine that KIC 8462852 is a main-sequence F3 V/IV star, with a rotation period ~0.88 d, that exhibits no significant IR excess.”
