Conor McGregor vs Aldo fight had seen a more than year long build up. MMA fans were expecting the fight to be among the fiercest in the last several years. The fans of the two fighters were all excited to see this ‘historic’ fighter that would give great time to UFC fans across the world.
Though historic fight it was, as it ended in just thirteen seconds, but the MMA fans had nothing to cheer about. Instead they felt cheated and betrayed as the man who is thought to be among the best fighters in the world seemed to have developed a very weak chin. Merely a few punches were traded in this so much publicized fight and before people could take their seats properly everything was over.
Aldo as expected looked on the loose and wanted to submit the Irish fighter as soon as possible. All in a sudden Aldo lunged forward, swinging his right hand. McGregor anticipated the punch, stepped back, and cracked the advancing Aldo square on the jaw with a left hook. This sent Aldo straight onto the canvass writhing in pain and unable to regain his composure.
There is no denying the fact that people were disappointed and felt dejected. There is inevitably a sense of anti-climax when a fight that everyone had anticipated would be a war is over within 13 seconds. But McGregor can hardly be blamed for succeeding so spectacularly that he didn’t even have time to break a sweat.
Aldo is to be blamed for not anticipating the counterpunch coming from McGregor. To destroy an undefeated champion – a man rated the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport – with your second punch of the night? We’ll be waiting a long time for anyone to improve on that. Though nobody else could believe it, this was what McGregor and his camp had been predicting all week – all year even.
Following the fight a beaming McGregor said, “I think Aldo should reassess himself while I look to maybe go for the 155-pound belt or maybe I look at Frankie, so there are optionsâ€. Then a rematch is also on the card though Dana White is yet to speak a word on it.
