JNMC organizes meeting on ‘Society for Cancer Prevention and Education’

Aligarh: With the objective of generating awareness among the masses regarding the increasing impact of Cancer disease, a meeting of ‘Society for Cancer Prevention and Education’ was organized under the presidentship of Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal and CMS, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University.

Prof Mansoor welcomed the members and said that it is hoped that all concerned will make a positive and concrete contribution in fulfilling the aims and objectives of the society.

In the meeting it was decided that hoardings/ posters regarding cancer prevention and awareness be displayed at JNMCH OPD and Reception, M S Hospital, Deen Dayal Hospital, Aligarh Collectrate, Railway Station and Government Bus Stands. It was also decided to display audio-visual shows on TV screens in main OPD Hall of JNMC along with other places and to use the Radio, Print Media, Internet and Social Media including Whatsapp for cancer education and prevention.

In the meeting it was also discussed to request the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to discourage celebrities from advertising tobacco products which are considered to be risk factors for development of cancer. It was proposed to organize cancer education and awareness camps in different areas, the transportation for which be arranged by JN Medical College/ Department of Community Medicine.

The meeting was attended by Prof Jamal Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Prof R K Tiwari, Acting Principal, Dr Z A Dental College; Prof Haris M Khan, Medical Superintendent; Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of Radiotherapy; Prof Najam Khalique, Chairman, Department of Community Medicine; Mr Tariq Hasan, Senior Journalist; Dr S P Singh, Representing CMO, Aligarh; Dr Sakeena Mushfiq, Epidemiologist, NCD Cell, U P Government and Mr Zeeshan Ahmad, Assistant Public Relations Officer.
