JNMC doctors remove impacted denture from food pipe in a complex surgery

Aligarh: A team of doctors from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University successfully performed a complex surgery under the guidance of Professor MH Beg, Chairman of the Department in which an impacted denture was removed from the food pipe of the affected patient. Dr Azam Haseen, Assistant Professor at the Department, assisted the surgery.

Professor Beg informed that the patient, a University employee, was referred to the CTVS OPD 17 of the Department after his loose denture got dislodged and got impacted in his food pipe while drinking water which led to difficulty in swallowing food and water.

He further informed that after various consultations the patient was referred to the OPD where he got admitted and fortunately the condition got stable. Professor Beg said that the patient had developed severe deficiency of oxygen and water because of swelling of the adjacent wind pipe. He told that after stabilization he was taken for surgery where the impacted denture was removed successfully. After endoscopic removal the patient was placed on ventilator support for 24 hours due to severe swelling of his wind pipe and finally the patient has recovered well and has been discharged, said Professor Beg.

Professor MH Beg, who has vast experience of removal of such foreign bodies from food and wind pipe, urged all the consultants to refer patients facing such problems to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, JN Medical College as it is having proper facilities so as to avoid any unnecessary complications to the patients.

Dr Shahna and her team gave anaesthesia to the patient.
