Subway’s ex spokesperson Jared Fogle to spend 16 years in jail on pedophile charges

Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle has been sentenced to fifteen years in prison for soliciting sex with minors and distribution of pornographic material related to children. When the sentence was announced, the man who used to be the toast of the town was asked to remove his suit and tie and was handcuffed.

Merely a few months ago when his house was raided by law enforcement agencies who spent several hours searching his home and electronics, not many people believed that the rumors were true. They said that it may be just confusion and many of his fans thought that the Subway’s spokesman will be cleared of all charges.

To be true, for months authorities too didn’t speak a word about what was going on behind closed door offices. But it was not before long when the man himself confessed to his crime.

The former Subway pitchman Fogle faced two counts: traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor, and distribution and receipt of child pornography.

When U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Walton Pratt asked him “How do you plead to the charges?” it didn’t take long for him to reply. He told the judge “Guilty”.

The judge then gave him long sentence of 15 years and eight months behind bars. Reports suggested that the prosecutors had actually recommended a 12½-year sentence.

The judge had his own views for longer sentence. “The level of perversion and lawlessness exhibited by Mr. Fogle is extreme” said the judge. In the meantime court documents claimed that Jared Fogle had used web sites to solicit commercial sex and that he had traveled to engage in sexual acts with minors. Many people have said that he should have also been tried for rape.
