Israel to release Palestinians tax revenues
RAMALLAH: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced the release of Palestinian tax revenues to the Palestinian authority, after withholding for four months, upon international security bodies’ recommendations, official media reported Friday.
“Given the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, one must act responsibly and with due consideration alongside a determined struggle against extremist elements,” Netanyahu said, according to Israeli radio.
“This decision to release funds made following recommendation of Israel’s security establishment and due to humanitarian considerations,” he added, according to Yediot Ahronot newspaper.
The withheld Palestinian tax revenues, total of USD 300 million, will be transferred, offset by payments for services rendered to the Palestinian population, such as electricity, water, and hospitalization, he noted.
