International Youth Day observed by Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society

Chandigarh: The International Youth Day, August 12, 2011 was observed by Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society by organizing various activities in the city.

The activities began on August 10, 2011 with broadcast of a story-based phone-in programme on youth and HIV/AIDS on All India Radio. This was done with an aim to sensitize the youth on this importance issue and start a debate. An InterCollege level competition on Essay Writing, Slogan Writing, Rangoli was organized on August 11, 2011 in the auditorium of GCG, Sector 11, Chandigarh. On August 12, 2011, HIV/AIDS awareness messages were displayed at intervals during the screening of the movie “ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA” which is on the theme of youth issues in the Fun Republic, Manimajra. Apart from this human chains were formed by college students in the market places of Sec. 23 and Sec. 20.

The Project Director, Dr.  Vanita Gupta, announced that an intensive campaign to spread awareness amongst the youth will continue throughout the month of August. Blood Donation Camp will be held in GCG, Sector 42 on August 24, 2011.

Declamation and Quiz Competitions will be held in 10 Government and Private Schools. Following this, an inter-school competition will be held on August 30, 2011 and the winners of this competition as well as the  inter-college competition will be awarded in a concluding function in the first week of September.
