Infertility issue under focus

Aligarh: Professor Jaideep Malhotra, an IVF specialist and an alumna of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University delivered a lecture on Infertility in Asia Pacific Region at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the concluding programme of Women’s International Week organized to mark the occasion.

Prof. Malhotra pointed out that the problem of infertility is on the rise and only 5% of the affected couples are able to receive treatment. She also discussed the ethical issues related to various treatment modalities and emphasized that the basic human right should be made affordable and accessible to all. “This is possible only when such facilities are also made available in the government institutions”, she aded.

Prof. Malhotra urged the faculty members and students to do research in this area and publish their institutional data. She also promised to help in the establishment of an IVF Centre in the Department, an initiative which has already been taken by the Chairperson, Professor Seema Hakim to make the dream of motherhood a reality for every woman.
