Indian Railways launches general ticket booking app: You don’t need a printout of ticket
New Delhi: In the next few years you will have app for almost everything. But while we will have to wait to see this happen, you can book a rail ticket for an unreserved seat. Indian Railway has launched an Android app for this very purpose and there is no denying the fact that it may become one of the most used apps on Google Play Store.
You can use the app to buy any ticket in most of the trains to and from any destination in the country using your Android smartphones or tablets. The app was launched by the Indian Railway officials earlier today.
In a statement Railway Ministry said, “We are launching a mobile-based paperless unreserved ticketing application tomorrowâ€. Having booked a ticket using the app, a commuter need not take a printout of the same and can show its soft copy on the mobile to the TTE. As per the plan, one may download the app from the Google App store for Android-based mobile phones. After the download, the user will get a registration ID number for creation of a railway e-wallet.
In the meantime money for buying tickets will have to be loaded through the e-wallet mobile payment system either online or at a ticket counter at any station. Passengers have the option of topping up the e-wallet at ticket counters or on the IRCTC website using a credit or debit card, the official said. Besides booking tickets, one can even renew season tickets using the app, which the official said will be a great help for commuters in the unreserved ticketing segment.
