India vs South Africa live cricket score: Wickets tumble as India lose 6 wickets for 140 runs in 1st test match
Many had thought that with Virat Kohli at the helm in the test series, India will do remarkably better than the ODI series that the team gave to South Africa on a platter. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the ODI captain has been criticized and hammered by almost everyone, both analysts and cricket fans across the country.
They failed to see the strengths of South African team that boasts of some of the best batsmen, the fastest pacers and the best of the best fielders. They should have also been commended for coming out with a plan and executing it on the ground with aplomb.
The Indian side couldn’t do it in the ODI series and there are telltale signs that the team may not be able to do very differently in the test series.
No one can blame the pitch this time as the pitch was so dry that Sunil Gavaskar said “he had never seen so many cracks in Chandigargh ever.” It was tailor-made to suit the India’s strength – and they were not shy of showing it by picking three spinners- and diminish South Africa’s but their fast bowlers retained their threat. India would have felt rather comfortable at 61 for 1 with six overs to go for lunch. But in just those six deliveries India lost two other crucial wickets.
Indian side must be ruing the loss of captain Kohli. Kagiso Rabada who made his test debut with the match bagged Virat Kohli for 1 and part-time spinner Dean Elgar removed Cheteshwar Pujara, making the Protease as having got the initiative.
