Update: So finally we have update about start of the match. Toss at 8.10 pm, start at 8.30pm, 18-overs a side.
Update: Match has been delayed due to rain and wet outfield.Â
Update: Someone said that Bangladeshi stadiums are better prepared to face rains as they have better drainage systems that Indian stadiums.
Update:Â West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is honouring former Pakistan captain and politician Imran Khan on the field by draping a shawl around him. Wasim Akram is next. “Poor Allan Lamb. His 92 World Cup dismissal comes up on the big screen.” says Karthik. And after Akram, is Waqar Younis and Sunil Gavaskar. And then Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar.
Will Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi be able to play the same inning he played against Bangladesh in their inaugural match? While Indian team may be worried over his return to form, many long time analysts believe Shahid Afridi is not someone who plays by the book. They believe he performs well in a match and then lets his fans down in a big way in a dozen matches or so.
Pakistani skipper may not be consistent against many teams in the past, but he and his teammates have already played two matches against two different teams from the Sub-continent and won both the matches here in Kolkata. The first match was just a warmup match against Sri Lanka, while the other match was against Bangladesh.
Pakistani team had lost six matches against Bangladesh in a row and many thought Bangladesh team was in a better position to win the match. To be true they were called the favorite to win the match. Nonetheless Pakistan amazed all by beating them by close to fifty runs.
Pakistani team in Kolkata seems to be a lot better than the team in Mirpur, Bangladesh, during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2016. Mohammad Hafeez’a return to form and Shahzad’s good show in the match against Bangladesh must have given the team managers a lot of hope.
Their bowling seems to be in an exceptional form. Amir has added to the strength. Besides, Afridi is also bowling very effectively. Irfan has proved to be an asset for the team. Nonetheless the team India seems to be in a lot better form.
They have been consistent for a long time. But the last two losses, first in a warm up match and then against New Zealand seems to have dented their confidence. There is a serious problem with Indian team. If Kohli blooms, India blooms too and if Kohli flops, team India flounders too.
Right now Indian fans seem to be very concerned about the fate of the team in the tournament. The heavy loss to New Zealand means India’s net run rate is pretty poor, while Pakistan’s massive win over Bangladesh has put them top of the points table in Group 2 for now. While a loss will not knock them out of the WT20, India cannot really afford another poor evening in the middle. The hosts need to find their big-game inspiration, look to their Asia Cup victory over Pakistan, and start showing the world why they were branded as the clear favourites at the start of the tournament.
Match starts at 2pm GMT/7.30pm IST. Live coverage of the game is available on Sky Sports 2 and Sky Sports 2 HD in the UK. Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 3 will telecast the match live in India. Click here for live streaming link.
