Update: India 38/1 after losing Sharma, Dhawan, Kohli at the crease
Update: start at 3.45pm with 24-overs- inning match. Finally a match
So what happens if India and England are unable to play the final match today? The common sense says that the match should be played the next day. But the mighty and insane International Cricket Council (ICC) has no such thing as a reserved day for this all important match for which the whole series was played. If even a Twenty20 match cannot be played today, the match is washed and ICC says the trophy will be divided between the two teams. So there is no winner at all.
It seems really insane, more so when the NHL and NBA have seven match finals and on the first NHL game between Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins they got three over time, taking the length of the game to almost double the original game. Both NBA and NHL have seven match final series. What the least ICC can do is to ensure that they have one extra day and so when the match cannot be played –even Twenty20 – the match can be decided the next day.
A very disappointed fan while very angrily reacting to this ICC policy says, “I cant believe there is no reserve day for this match. What other sport would allow no final to be played. It makes a complete nonsense of all the knock out matches and group stage games that have gone before. The ICC have again made a mess of what should have been a celebration of the sport of cricket.” He is right as this seems a mockery of the sport called cricket.
In the meantime the rains are continuing for hours. In fact rain started pouring in immediately after the toss was won by England. I think mother nature was angry as to why Cook won the toss. Had Dhoni won the toss, the rains might have stopped and the game would have been underway by now (just kidding).
