Immigration reform 2015 news: Bernie Sanders claims will expand Obama executive orderÂ
Bernie Sanders has claimed he will be doing his best to expand the “deferred action” policy. There is no denying the fact that it may be very attractive for a large number of people and may come to the rescue of millions of undocumented immigrants. Deferred action actually provides deportation protection for undocumented immigrants brought into the country as children.
He is not the only Presidential hopeful from among Democrats who has talked about expanding the ambit of Obama executive plan. Earlier this month former secretary of state and former first lady Hillary Clinton had made a detailed representation before a large number of Latino representatives to do precisely the same. But the most amazing was how Jeb Bush tried to get into the hearts of Latinos by promising immigration reform.
Nonetheless Bernie Sanders has come out very detailed plan about the deferred action that means he has worked really hard on the issue. Bernie Sanders was speaking at an important Latino gathering. He was addressing the National Conference of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials in Las Vegas. The Vermont senator called for an overhaul to the immigration system that would keep families together. He promised that if elected president he would expand President Barack Obama’s “deferred action” policy, which grants deportation protection for undocumented immigrants brought into the country as children.
He is very clear as far as expanding the ambit of the deferred action policy. “We cannot and we should not be talking about sweeping up millions of men, women and children, many of whom have been in this country for years…It makes common sense to me, and I think all people of good will, that we should be pursuing policies that unite families, not tear them apart…American kids who deserve the right to be in the country they know as home…We are a nation of immigrants. That is, in fact, the strength of America…It is not acceptable to me…and I think a growing majority of the American people, that millions of folks in this country are working extremely hard, but they are living in the shadows, and this has got to end…Brothers and sisters, there is a lot of work to be done…But when we stand up to those people on top whose greed has done so much damage to this country… There is no limit to what this great country can accomplish†he said.
