Yellowstone Park supervolcano eruption will be the worst thing to happen in United States. It will be the worst natural disaster in the country and people will have no place to hide. New York, Los Angeles, Miami and all other major cities will be adversely affected by it. The nearer the city, bigger the impact, but no place will be left untouched.
There is no denying the fact that the whole nation will be enveloped by thick blanket of ash. Researchers have said that supervolcano eruption may cause several feet high ash across the region. Even cities and towns thousands and thousands of miles away will also face the brunt of the supervolcano eruption.
Yellowstone Caldera, that sits in the lap of beautiful Yellowstone National Park surrounded by lakes and mountains is thought to be an active volcano. A report says that as much as the half of the world’s geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone.
Rumors about the eruption here seem to be ever present. In March, a viral video of bison stampeding through the park gave rise to rumors of an imminent eruption. In early April, scientists and park officials debunked the fears, saying the bison run was a natural migratory occurrence, not a sign of impending volcanic activity. That very same week, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook the northwest section of the park, marking the largest seismic activity at Yellowstone since 1980. A Reuters report said that the earthquake occurred near “an area or ground uplift tied to the upward movement of molten rock in the super-volcano, whose mouth, or caldera, is 50 miles long and 30 miles wideâ€.
The latest report is one of the most precise about how the eruption will affect the US, if it actually does. The latest study seems to be very accurate as it is based on a recent computer modeling system that is being used by the US Geological Survey (USGS). It says that in case the supereruption actually takes place it will affect areas thousands of miles away from the Yellowstone National Park. Supereruption is the scariest thing when it comes to volcanic eruptions. The term supereruption or supervolcano means volcanic center that has had an eruption of magnitude 8 on the Volcano Explosivity Index (VEI). This implies that the measured deposits for that eruption is greater than 1,000 cubic kilometers or 240 cubic miles. A report says that the VEI scale was launched as a general measurement of the explosivity of an eruption.
