A majority of his fans say that if cine-star Om Puri has beaten his wife, he should be arrested and punished: fans

New Delhi / Mumbai: His fans who have been smitten by his charm for decades say that though they love him, but they cannot stand watching him beat his wife. Varsha Agrawal, A DU student who has been his long-time fan says that it was abhorring to hear that a man of his stature will resort to such inhuman pre-historic act. Many others with whom NVO talked also expressed the same opinion.

Mumbai Police is on a lookout for bollywood actor Om Puri, who went into hiding, after his second wife Nandita filed a complaint of domestic violence against him at the Versova Police Station.

Giving the details of the case, Harishchandra Parmale, senior police inspector of Versova police station, said: “Nandita in her statement has alleged that Om Puri had beaten her with a stick and threatened her. We have registered the complaint and booked the actor for voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon or means under Section 324, criminal intimidation under Section 506, and word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman under Section 509 of the IPC. The police had gone to the actor’s house to arrest him on Friday, but he was not there. Currently the police are tracing the actor through his cellphone. Om Puri is absconding at present. We will arrest him as soon as we trace him.”

It may be recalled that the marriage hit the rocky patch after Nandita released the biography of the actor in 2009 titled: “Unlikely Hero: The Story Of Om Puri.” The book apart from revealing about their turbulent relation also brought forth the intimate revelations which included Om’s affair with his maid.

The problem started much before the release of the book. According to Nandita their marriage started failing after Om’s first wife Seema came back to his life in 2008. Om had married Seema after 10 years of courtship in 1990. The couple however got divorced within three years.

Nandita and Om Puri have a son named Ishaan. The couple were presently living separately. While the actor has filed for a divorce suit, Nandita in turn filed a legal suit against him under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act in which she had alleged that Om had not given her any money since September 2012.
