After winning the match an emotional Zealand captain Brendon McCullum: said “It’s been one hell of a ride for us, right the way through, we played some outstanding cricket. We ran into an outstanding team in Australia, they continue to set the standard. Michael Clarke bows out on a high note, they deserved to win. [Early dismissal] Probably unfolded not as planned, but we got ourselves back in the game at 3 for 150. With 180, you still dare to dream, could have ended up differently with a couple of things going our way. This is what you ask for as a cricketer, we’ve had the opportunity. We’ve forged memories and friendships that will last forever. Didn’t lift the trophy but no regrets, the brand of cricket we’ve played and we walk away with our heads held high. It’s the greatest time of our lives and that’s how we tried to play the game, with a free spirit and heart. Still think we can be very proud of our achievements in this tournament.”

Two countries with barely 30 million population among them are playing final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Nations with huge populations of 1.25 billion, 200 million and 180 million have been thrown out of the tournament. While two of them were thrown out in the quarter final stage, India with the largest population was lucky to play in the semis. But Australians threw them out without showing least respect.

Now the two hosts who were hosting the tournament are playing the final. But no one will be complaining that the two didn’t deserve to be in the finals. They played like champions from the very beginning and overwhelmed the best of the best.icc-cricket-world-cup-2015 teams-predictions

New Zealand in particular, with just over 4 million population, were so impeccable and so much lethal that no one defeat them. They won all their matches with great ease and became a standard bearer in the tournament.

Earlier today New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and decided to bat, and predictably so, first in the 2015 World Cup final. This is the first time they have reached the final. McCullum thought that the Melbourne surface was expected to be dry but full of runs. Some bounce and pace was expected from the pitch, but with clear skies overhead, swing and seam was not likely to play a major role.

Both the teams are playing with the same teams they played in semifinals. None has made changes to the XIs that won their semi-finals. New Zealand retained seamer Matt Henry although he has only played one match this tournament, after being called up to the squad ahead of the semi-final. It meant Kyle Mills and Mitchell McClenaghan remain on the sidelines.
