Till just three months ago, a 4G handset was thought to be a high end handset. But things in the technology world seem to be changing faster than you and me change our clothes.

Now 4G devices are not coming just very frequently, they are coming unimaginably cheap too.

But this whole cacophony about it seems weird as there is a miniscule 4G market in India. 4G is still something alien here and people who have 4G devices will not actually like to use the 4G network as it drains data faster than your bathroom tap. For people who have to pay for data themselves, 4G is still a big no, no, more so for affordable 4G smartphone owners.

In the meantime Chinese tech giant Huawei has come out with a good looking 4G device Huawei Honor 4X. Priced at Rs 10,499, the handset is going to fight it out against the likes of Micromax Yureka Yu or Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4G. Amazingly Huawei has kept its price higher than the two handset despite the fact that it is not better than the two handsets.

huawei-honor-4x-reviewWhen it comes to specifications, it looks quite decent. It includes 5.5-inch IPS touchscreen (1280×720 pixels), 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB internal memory, microSD up to 32GB, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB, 3000mAh battery. The handset runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with Emotion UI 3.0.

Nonetheless one aspect that will make you think twice before going for the handset is absence of Gorilla Glass protection for the screen is disappointing. On the other hand you shouldn’t get too much excited about 64-bit processor—there aren’t many apps at this time that leverage the power of a 64-bit CPU, and won’t be for some time. While both the cameras of the handset are great, the rear camera of the Honor 4X clicks better shots than both its competitors, both in day light as well as low-light environments. The flash is especially strong.
