To the distress of Windows Phone fans, HTC says it is not going to sell its budget Windows Phone 8 device the HTC 8S in the U.S. In an official statement, the Taiwan tech firm has confirmed this news. The firm wants to focus on its flagship Windows Phone 8 handset the HTC 8X in the country, instead. It may be quite frustrating for HTC fans in the U.S., who have been holding out a hope that the company will bring its budget WP 8 handset to the country since its official release.

“The Windows Phone 8X by HTC is our signature Windows Phone available at AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless in the U.S. With our focus on the Windows Phone 8X by HTC, the Windows Phone 8S is not currently planned for distribution in the U.S. market,” says the official statement from HTC.

HTC announced its pair of Windows Phone 8 handsets on one occasion. The 8X and 8S are simply poised at brawls respectively against Nokia Lumia 920 and 820. But, HTC failed to update anything about the 8S (including price or release date) even long after the release of its elder brother, which is the signature phone of Windows Phone 8. Meanwhile, U.S. fans extremely hoped that once it did the company would bring it to the country. Sadly enough, it is not to appear in the U.S. shelves.

“While we’re still awaiting official details on pricing and availability across the globe, HTC has filled us in on one crucial nugget of information: it won’t be coming to the United States,” says Engadget’s Brad Molen. Yes, HTC and Windows fans in the U.S. were in hope that the budget WP 8 phone would come to them. But, HTC has thought differently. However, the company has missed to mention when the 8S would come elsewhere.

Some retailers might be bringing the HTC 8S in the country when it would arrive in other markets. But, it would be for a price without any discount or subsidy. So there would be little point in buying this budget phone for a big price. They could otherwise buy HTC 8X or Lumia 920.

HTC Windows Phone 8S – A Budget Phone
The 8S is HTC’s mid-level phone for Windows Phone 8. The phone has a pretty Gorilla Glass-covered 4-inch WVGA LCD display (480 x 800 pixels at 233-ppi) and a 5MP rear camera that make it a handset almost closer to the One V rather than the One S. Yes, it is a budget phone with a purpose to compete with Lumia 820 and other mid-level Android phones in stores. The device is also known for its stunning colors and design. Yes, apart from the low price factor, it will also be a major selling point. Well, it is built in a matte plastic finish and comes in four diverse color options.

Under the hood, the HTC 8S packs a 1GHz dual core Krait processor with Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, Adreno 305 GPU and 512MB of RAM. It comes with 4GB of internal storage with a microSD slot for expanding memory up to 32GB. For network connectivity, you have options like EDGE, GPRS, HSDPA, HSUPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB 2.0 port. Sadly, the handset misses a front camera for video chatting.

Conclusion
U.S. customers are not lucky to get this phone. But, it is not still clear when it will officially be launched in other countries. The only way for a U.S. customer to get this device now is to buy a SIM-free model from other markets or get it from any U.S. retailers that might sell it for an undiscounted price. You can’t buy it from a U.S. carrier as you can do the 8X.
