The smart-phone war is all set to intensify in the days to come. HTC One vs Samsung Galaxy S3 Specs and features analysis makes interesting reading

So far Korean tech giant’s Samsung Galaxy S III was the highest selling Android smart-phone in the country. But ten months is a long time at least when it comes to smart-phone market and things are getting tougher for this Samsung flagship handset. Taiwanese tech giant HTC has introduced a super smart-phone that is set to get things very difficult for Sammy’s flagship handset of the year 2012. HTC One takes the smart-phone fight to an all new level and due to its excellent specs and features makes Galaxy S3 look dated.  Though it may still not be able to beat Samsung’s Galaxy S3 in market popularity given obvious reasons, the competition is going to be very tough in the market and Sammy will have to work harder to outsell HTC One.

The latest offering from HTC that was earlier being called HTC M7 is not just more powerful than not just Galaxy S3, but all other handsets available in the market including iPhone 5, Galaxy Note 2, it also has numerous other advantages over its market competitors. Its camera is finest launched so far in any smart-phone and busts the myth of mega pixel for the first time.

So far Samsung’s Galaxy S3 had a free run in the smart-phone market and reports suggest that Sammy has sold around 45 million units of the handsets across the world. It is a record for Android phone market. But after a rather very long time, there is a true competitor to the huge handset from Taiwanese tech giant and there are indications that things are going to be bright for the manufacturer who was being claimed to be quitting Android. The lack of success for HTC despite its very impressive line of top Android handsets seemed to have frustrated the company. But now things are looking very bright for it.

So at the time of HTC One’s launch, a comparison with market leader seems a very reasonable thing. As far as display is concerned, both come with impressive displays. HTC One’s display is set to be the best of the lot and everyone is sure that the device would tout a 1080p display. It is the new trend of the market. All major companies have introduced high resolution of FullHD displays to their new products. As per reports, the One is to come with an impressive edge-to-edge 4.7-inch display that will have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at a whopping 469-ppi. It will thus valiantly lift challenge to the new lineup of Android phones. Well, the device almost matches with Galaxy S3 in display size and technology. The S3 sports a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display that has a resolution of 1280 x 720 at a rather meek 306-ppi. In fact, both the devices look to have the same perfection in display clarity.

As far as Hardware is concerned, both the handsets come with very powerful processors that make the multi-tasking look like a child’s play. The new HTC premium Android phone has much more powerful innards. The device is up with a rather strong 1.7GHz quad core Krait 300 processor that packs a Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600 chipset. The device has an Adreno 320 GPU. Galaxy S3 is up with 1.4GHz Samsung’s own Exynos Cortex A9 quad core processor. The device’s U.S. version, however, does get its power from a 1.5GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor. The 1.6GHz quad-core A9 processor is paired with a Mali 400MP GPU and 1 GB of RAM. The Galaxy S3 generally provides high-end performance, which is reflected in benchmark results.

As far as internal storage is concerned, HTC seems to have given heed to the demand and launched 64GB version for its new One device, by replacing the older 16GB model. Both the devices unfortunately miss out microSD slots for expanding storage. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy S III is available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions. Additionally, Samsung is one of the few Android manufacturers that have opted not to ditch microSD slots for their flagship devices. So in internal storage option Galaxy S3 has a certain advantage over it.

In camera, there is no handset that can match HTC’s latest offering. HTC One remains entirely different from any other phone. The Taiwan tech firm has introduced an innovative 4MP Ultrapixels camera. It is indeed the most-touted thing with this phone. The camera shows off features like LED foals, autofocus, a 1/3-inch’ sensor size, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, OIS and more. It can also take video at 1080p with HDR, stereo sound rec. and others. “For years, people have been misled about what is important in a camera – what matters is not pixel count, but pixel size… We’re talking about real image quality, not just megapixels for the sake of megapixels. The era of the megapixel is over,” HTC’s design director Jonah Becker has said about the new camera of the device at its release function on Feb. 19. A Wired review of HTC One camera is all praise for the handset. “We took the HTC One out to a dimly-lit restaurant and it produced far better, and cleaner, images that the Samsung Galaxy SIII we had with us. The HTC One’s photos were much clearer, and you could plainly see everyone in them. Photos snapped with the Galaxy’s 8MP camera didn’t look any sharper than the One’s 4MP images. The only advantage to the Samsung’s snapshots was you could zoom in tighter on a subject’s dark face”, says the review.

Both the handsets come with almost the same operating systems. HTC handset is coming with the 4.1 Jelly Bean and it may get the next major update the Android 4.2 in future. HTC has made the device as compatible to the most recent Android update. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy S3 that was launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been updated to Android 4.1.2. It comes with Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. To be true, HTC One takes the smart-phone war an all new level and competitors will have to struggle really hard to match the latest HTC handset.
