It is going to make life difficult for the entrenched players. HP Slate 7 vs iPad Mini 2 vs next gen. Google Nexus 7 will see a new price war

HP Slate 7 is a very inexpensive device that seem to have come with everything unusually good. Not many had thought that HP will ever launch so much cheap tablet with such good specifications in the market and directly threaten the market leaders including Cupertino based Apple’s forthcoming iPad Mini 2 and Google’s next generation Nexus 7 that is yet to hit the market. Though both the next generation Apple and Google tablets are going to come with immensely improved features, great display and better specifications, HP Slate 7 has its own strengths. Though HP Slate 7 is certainly not what Apple’s iPad Mini 2 will try to claim about it as a market leader, but given the fact that HP Slate 7 comes from a well respected company with solid service centers and other added advantages of being a top class world company, it is sure to get a traction of market share of established market leaders.

So far Google’s Nexus 7’s $199 price was thought to be the lowest a top class manufacturer can go to price its tablet, but now with HP Slate 7’s $169 the price has been brought down substantially and there is a real fear that some other top company may offer a new small 7-inch tablet for even lower price.

Now there are reports that HP may be benefited by this out of box thinking and aggressive pricing. Given the IDC forecasts, HP may benefit by re-entering the tablet market. However, the competitive pricing of the $169 HP Slate 7 indicates that this product’s gross and net profit margins are likely to be pretty slim: Apple’s lowest-cost iPad with Retina display (and a 9.7-inch screen) is priced at $499, and its lowest-cost iPad mini (with a 7.9-inch screen) is priced at $329.hte next generation iPad Mini will be priced in the same price band. The new tab from HP comes with good features. The HP Slate 7 comes with 7-inch diagonal screen, a weight of 13 ounces, and a stainless-steel frame, as well as an ARM Dual Core Cortex-A9 1.6 GHz processor, a 3-megapixel camera on the back, and a VGA camera on the front, making it look a very enticing proposition.

For HP it is a new beginning of the sort. To be true, so far HP had resisted the lure of Android OS. It is the first HP tab to be running on Android. HP’s first tablet TouchPad came with its own operating system the webOS. Now the company has turned up with a nice Android tablet PC. The device will feature a 7.0-inch 1024×600 resolution display that makes use of the FFS+ LCD technology. It is up with a powerful 1.6GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory. In its quest to provide top specs, HP has given the tab a MicroSD card slot. The Slate 7 will further offer a microSD card slot for expanding memory beyond the available 8GB. As for connectivity, it will have options like Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/b and Bluetooth 2.1. The device will mount a 3MP rear camera and VGA front camera. Plus, it will offer stereo speakers and Beats Audio support. For such a cheap tablet, Beats Audio seems a big achievement and HP will reap the fruit in the days to come.
