How did Glenn Frey die, what was cause of his death: rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis etc

The Eagles in a statement announced the death of 67-year old band member and renowned guitarist, Glenn Frey. He was suffering from several diseases and was hospitalized in New York back in November.

Reports suggest that he was initially admitted to a hospital for pneumonia. Later he developed many other illnesses including arthritis, ulcerative colitis etc. Once admitted in the hospital he never regained his health and ultimately breathed his last yesterday, January 18.

His health problems in the beginning of November forced The Eagles to postpone their Kennedy Center tribute. The Washington-based Center at that time announced that the Eagles will not participate in a Dec. 6 ceremony that will also honor Carole King and George Lucas among others. Frey, who turned 67 early November, has long suffered from intestinal problems, which he has blamed on his drug use during the band’s early years,. Frey sang lead on the Eagles’ first hit, “Take It Easy,” and on such favorites as “New Kid in Town” and “Already Gone.”

Glenn FreyGlenn Frey was the cofounder of the Eagles and with Don Henley became one of history’s most successful songwriting teams with such hits as “Hotel California” and “Life in the Fast Lane,” has died. His health had been talk of the town for weeks. Frey reportedly died of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia, the band said on its website. He died on Monday in New York. He had fought the ailments for the past several weeks, the band said.

He was a multidimensional personality who was admired by almost everyone. While making the announcement the band said, “The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery”. Frey and drummer Henley formed the Eagles in Los Angeles in the early 1970s, along with guitarist Bernie Leadon and bassist Randy Meisner. They would become a top act over the next decade, embodying the melodic California sound.

His family in a press release also detailed Glenn Frey cause of death. “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016…Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia. The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery. Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.”
