He has been a legend for long and many thought that he will remain in our midst forever. But humans are mortals and even immortal looking humans too have to leave for an eternal live or heavenly journey. Everyone has to go, and so went Frank Gifford.

From the football field to the broadcast booth he was someone who was loved by almost everyone. The way he kept himself to the New York Giants for his entire football career shows his loyalty to his team, his friends and above all to his ideals and his family.

It is not just the NFL fan base that is mourning the loss of the 84-year old Frank Gifford. Hollywood too is mourning his loss. Many Hollywood leading personalities, football players, associations, teams besides of course media across the US and beyond, are mourning the loss. They claim that no one can fulfill the void created by his sudden death.

frank giffordNFL Commissioner Roger Goodell while talking about Gifford and his contribution said, “Frank Gifford was an icon of the game, both as a Hall of Fame player for the Giants and Hall of Fame broadcaster for CBS and ABC…Frank’s talent and charisma on the field and on the air were important elements in the growth and popularity of the modern NFL.”

The cause of his death has been declared to be natural. In a statement released by NBC News, his family said that the former player, actor and broadcaster died of natural causes Sunday morning.

The statement from his family said, “We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being…We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers.” On the other hand Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Co. said, “His many achievements were defined by a quiet dignity and a personal grace that is seldom seen in any arena…He truly embodied the very best of us”.

The eighty-four year old Gifford was born on August 16, 1930. He was one of the best American football (not soccer) player and television broadcaster. It is simply amazing to know that he actually spent his entire 13-year National Football League (NFL) career with the New York Giants. He was equally adaptable and impressive while playing both offense and defense. He participated in five NFL Championship games and eight Pro Bowls, and won the league’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1956, the same season he won his only NFL Championship. He was married to Kathie Lee Gifford.
