Himachal to get Prime Minister Award for preservation of environment

Shimla: Ramesh C. Misra, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Govt. of India has informed Smt. Rajwant Sandhu, Chief Secretary, that the Department of Environment, Science & Technology, Govt. of H.P. has been selected under ‘Organization Category’ for Prime Minister Award for Excellence in Public Administration for the year 2009-2010 for the initiative viz. Sustainable Plastic Waste Management in Himachal Pradesh.
Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister has also lauded the efforts of the Department and people of Himachal Pradesh, other departments, traders, NGOs, Mahila Mandals, Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies, Industries Associations, Hotel Association etc. who made the whole endeavour ‘Polythene Hatao- Paryavaran Bachao’ campaign a success. He said that encouraged by this achievement, the State worked hard to maintain the sustenance of efforts and make Himachal Pradesh cleaner, greener and healthier place to live.
Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh was heading towards becoming 1st Carbon Neutral State of the country. He said that complete ban on the use of plastic, polythene bags and related materials had been imposed in the State to protect the environment of the State. He further said that apart from this, Government was committed to make Himachal Pradesh a greener tourist destination and had made sustainable efforts in environment protection. He said that State Government had also created H.P. Environ Fund and decision had been taken to provide grants/ incentives to villages pro-active for environment protection. He said that eco monitoring and environ auditing schemes had also been launched in the State for preservation of environment.
Smt. Rajwant Sandhu, Chief Secretary said that the Award would be presented on Civil Services Day i.e. 21st April, 2011 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. She said that Smt. Sarojini Ganju Thakur, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Science & Technology and Dr. Nagin Nanda, Director, Environment, Science & Technology have been sent to Delhi to attend the Award Ceremony. She said that Smt. Sarojini Ganju Thakur would receive the award on behalf of the organization i.e. Department of Environment, Science & Technology, Govt. of H.P.
