hptdcShimla: Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) hotels would endeavour to give boost to its business promotional activities to attract participants and foreigners to visit Himachal Pradesh proposed Common Wealth Games scheduled to be held in New Delhi during the year 2010 by offering them an attractive package. This was revealed by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, in the 121st Board of Directors Meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation held here under his Chairmanship last evening.
Chief Minister said that HPTDC was the face of the State hospitality operating a vast chain of hotels and restaurants at all major tourist spots fully equipped with transportation and other allied facilities. He said that the ensuing Common Wealth Games would be one additional opportunity for the Corporation to gain additional business by offering special package to the players and sports lovers visiting New Delhi and attract them to visit Himachal Pradesh as also gain word of mouth publicity beyond national boundaries. He said that hospitality was one of the fastest growing industry in the world and HPTDC needs to keep pace with the global trends by updating its professional capabilities and catering to the requirements of the customers. He said that although entire Himachal Pradesh was naturally beautiful and capable to attract the attention of any visitor which needed to be exploited to gain business prospectus for the organisation. He said that since the online booking of hotels was available and the Corporation needs to take benefit of the same to offer packages to the prospective tourists to visit Himachal Pradesh.
Prof. Dhumal congratulated the HPTDC Management for earning revenue worth Rs. 51.34 crore during past eleven months and gaining Rs. 5.54 crore as profit to the organisation. He said that credibility of any hospitality industry was an added asset which HPTDC possesses undoubtedly and needed to be exploited for giving boost to its business activities. He said that the income generating units of the Corporation needed to be upgraded to meet the increasing demand of the customers while suitable strategy needed to be adopted for the others which were running into losses year after year. He said that the packages could also be offered for promotion of health tourism by incorporating ‘Panch Karma’ system and could be beneficial in attracting more health loving tourists to the pollution free environment of the State. He said that State had varied local cuisines which needed to be prepared in the traditional style and offered to the visitors to acquaint them to the local dietary habits of the people and could generate income to the Corporation. He said that additionally different types of international cuisines also needed to be introduced to customers to make them permanent customers of the HPTDC.
Chief Minister said that best sanitary conditions were essential ingredient to attract the customers to HPTDC hotels which needed to be followed strictly. He said that the entire hotel service staff needed to follow the dress code besides well acquainted with the professional aptitude. He said that decent behaviour by the service staff adds to the business prospectus of the hospitality industry which needed to be practiced regularly and periodic updation of skill upgradation of the staff carried in association with other renowned hotels. He said that the transportation fleet of the Corporation also needed to directed to ensure best maintenance of their vehicles, cleanliness and best manners by the escorting staff with their customers besides extending them all courtesies on demand to make their visit to the State so that they could carry home good memories and prove to be the business promoters for the State. He emphasised the need for best hospitality services to the visitors to uphold the rich traditions of the State.
Smt. Asha Swaroop, Chief Secretary, advised that regular exchange of the food and beverage staff of HPTDC needed to be carried with best addresses in the hospitality industry so that the professional skills of the staff was upgraded to match the prevailing trend in the industry.
Smt. Manisha Nanda, Secretary Tourism and Managing Director, HPTDC, welcomed the Chief Minister and detailed the agenda items of the Board of Director’s Meeting. She apprised the Board of the targets and achievements with future proposals to gain more business prospectus.
