Himachal Launches the Ambitious “Jan-Jan Sanjivni-Van Abhiyan-2008”


    Shimla: Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister launched the ambitious “Jan-Jan Sanjivni-Van Abhiyan-2008” by planting a sapling of Taxus Baccata (Rakhal) within the premises of his official residence Oakover here today and distributed plants of Tulsi (Ocimum Sanctum), Viola Odorata, Spilanthes Acmella, Aloe Vera, Ctaxus Baccatas, Valeriana Jatamansi and Withania Somnifera amongst the local MLAs, Mayor and Councillors of Municipal Corporation, Shimla, Rotarians, Seva Sadan and NGO for further plantation in their homes.
    Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister said that it was for the first time and such a massive plantation campaign of medicinal and herbal plants were launched in the State with people participation. He said that it would be perhaps the world record that about 12.5 lakh saplings would be planted all over the State in the single day by every family in rural and urban areas.
    Prof. Dhumal said that the State Forest Department had deputed its entire work force to distribute the plants to every household through a vast network of 4509 distribution Centres set up in rural and urban areas. He said that the State Government had made its preparation in advance and planted the nurseries at different places to meet the demand. He said that overwhelming support had been registered from every quarter of the society for the campaign.
    Chief Minister said that the motive behind launching the campaign was to draw the attention of the people towards the degradation of the environment and won a step towards protecting the same by carrying massive plantation. He said that the plantation would not only increase the green cover but also absorb the green house gases besides generating income to the people in coming few years. He said that it would be the earnest desires of the State Government to involve people from all walks with the campaign.
    Prof. Dhumal said that the State was poised to emerge “
    Herbal State” in coming few years and provide a avenue to the farmers to generate income by diversified herbal farming. He said that the State Government was carrying forward with its plan to test the soil of farmers free of cost and suggest them appropriate cash crop suitable for cultivation in the particular soil, so that agriculture could emerge a viable avocation and contribute towards strengthening the rural economy. He added that the State Government was giving added priority to the agriculture sector and modernize the same to generate employment and self-employment in the sector.
    Chief Minister said that with the success of Jan-Jan Sanjivni Abhiyan-2008, the farmers would get motivation and join the campaign for further implementation all over the State. He said that the State Government was also exploring possibilities of planting fruit trees on the National and State highways to further supplement the Jan-Jan Sanjivni Van Abhiyan in cooperation with the people of the State.
    Prof. Dhumal appealed to the people to lend their cooperation and make the campaign a resounding success so that the State was capable to feed the pharmaceutical companies with herbal raw material.
    J.P. Nadda, Forest and Environment Minister said that about 10.5 lakh saplings had been distributed to the people all over the State till 1st August, 2008 morning and the process was continuously even today, so that more plants were made available to people on demand. He said that the entire department was working in close coordination with the public representatives, NGOs and other agencies to deliver the plants and associate people with the campaign.

      i m from himachal want to do herbal farming .so plsetell me how we gain benefits from gov. side. i m really proud of Mr. dhumal, Mr. nadda that they are doing exellent work in herbal plants field.
