Himachal Governor inaugurates National Conference of ISSPCON


    Shimla: Smt. Urmila Singh, Governor Himachal  inaugurated 26th Annual National Conference of Indian Society for Study of Pain (SSPCON)-2011, organized by the department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research at Chandigarh today.
    Inaugurating a three-day-long National Conference, Smt. Urmila Singh said that pain was the most common symptom for which patient had to come to the Doctor. The science of pain and its management is changing at a faster pace necessitating pain physicians to update their knowledge and skills with such types of conferences, she added.
    Smt. Urmila Singh also said that eminent national and international guest faculty participating in this national conference would help all those involved in the field of specialty of pain in updating recent advances of acute and chronic pain. She hoped that the conference would assisit pain physicians to manage pain scientifically and the conference would not only stimulate new thinking but also new action in our endeavour to work for a better and heal-their planet free of pain.
    Governor said that pain was not only a medical aspect but it has also a social aspect which related to economical problems in our society. She said that a developed country like America where 85% of Americans have faced incidents of chronic pain once or more in their life time and added that a loss of crores of Dollars every year is being incurred due to loss of production and reduction in performance in work caused by common pain related to headache, backache and mussel pain etc.
    Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred to Dr. Virender Rastogi from Banaras Hindu University for his contribution towards medical science and pain society on the occasion.
    A souvenir was also released on the occasion.
    Dr. K.K. Talwar, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh detailed out the activities of three-day long ISSPCON-2011 on the occasion.
    Dr. Geeta Joshji, Secretary, ISSP presented the report of the Society. Dr. P.N. Jain, President, ISSP delivered his presidential address. Earlier, Dr. Jyotsana Wig, Organizing Chairperson, ISSP welcomed the Governor. Later, Dr. Y.K. Batra, Organizing Secretary, ISSPCON-2011 proposed the vote of thanks on the occasion.
