Himachal CM stresses need for projecting the true picture in media


    Shimla: Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister has emphasised the need for projecting the news and other incidents in the electronic and other media in the right perspective as sometime wrong projection prove very detrimental to the society. He was speaking on the occasion of launching of Day and Night News Channel from Chandigarh last evening.
    Shiv Raj Patil, Governor Punjab and Chief Administrator, Chandigarh Union Territory was the Chief Guest on launching of Day and Night News Channel which was also attended by Shri Prakash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab and the Ministers of Haryana and Punjab Governments.

    Prof. Dhumal said that there were over 500 electronic channels which telecast international, national, regional and local programmes. He expressed concern over the over exposure of some incidents in the channel which had adverse effects on the society.
    Chief Minister said that responsible reporting was the essential ingredient of any channel or newspaper which builds its credibility amongst the viewers and the readers. He said that with the large number of over 500 channels in the country, only limited few were popular with the viewers, which had built their credibility through the responsible and creditable reporting of the newsworthy events taking place in any part of the globe. He said that there was mad rush for flashing of breaking news by many channels without waiting for the authentic information about the particular news. He said that it would be in the best interest of the society to present a complete and comprehensive news story based upon the facts.
    Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal hoped that the Day and Night Channel would also rise to the expectations of the people and Himachal Pradesh would also find proper place in its programmes including news. He expressed happiness that the channel would telecast in three languages,-English, Hindi and Punjabi and people would benefit from it at large.
    Prof. Dhumal said that Himachal Pradesh had maintained best cordial relations with its neighbours and extended all possible help for strengthening the regional cooperation concept. He said that the present shape and size of the State had resulted out of the Reorganisation of Punjab State in 1966 when some hilly areas of erstwhile Punjab were merged into Himachal Pradesh. He said that the State had been making rapid strides on all fronts, emerging a role model for rest of the country in education, health, connectivity, women empowerment, environment protection, employment generation and hydel power generation etc. He said that people of the State had made supreme sacrifices to pave the way for the construction of Bhakra Dam and other BBMB Hydel Projects although the State gained nothing out of it except rendering thousands of families homeless, which were still struggling for suitable rehabilitation. He said that the State was proud of its serving and ex-servicemen who had rendered exemplary service in protecting the national boundaries and rising to any emergency call in any part of the country. He said that it was due to the water flowing down from the Himachal that the deserts of Rajasthan were converting into green pastures and fertile cultivable land. He said that the State was committed to maintain harmonious relations with its neighbours to strengthen the regional cooperation.
    Jaspal Singh Kandhari, Chairman of the Channel welcomed the distinguished guests while Shri Kanwar Sandhu, Managing Editor gave the picture of the Day and Night Channel programmes to be telecast.
