It is going to be one of its own class. Google Project Glass or Google Goggles’ pre-order holders have been invited to hackathons (video)

Discussion on Google Project Glass is heating up. It is a Google project for developing a smart and augment reality head-mounted display (HMD). It is meant to bring in many smartphone-like features through a virtual interface. Users can give commands to the device through voice and get inputs on the augment reality-powered pair of glasses. Google has been working on this project for a long time under Google X Lab, which worked behind many futuristic technologies like Google self-driving cars. Here are all recent details that one should know about Project Glass.

Google Glass Foundry Events
Ahead of officially releasing the glasses, Google is to test out its usability and scope in help of developers. For the purpose, the company is to take place two Google Glass Foundry events late January and early February. The events will bring together many developers, who are interested with the project. Google will give them a chance to develop apps for Glasses in help of its expert engineers.

The Glass events are to take place in the company’s offices in San Francisco and New York respectively on January 28 and 29 and February 1 and 2, Google says. The company will show its Mirror API for Google Glass to the developers and they will be given the guidelines to create apps. “The company said each Glass Foundry event will include “two days of full-on hacking” for people who have already signed up for the Glass Explorer Edition,” says All Things D.

Google has categorically mentioned that the events are not to divulge release date and price of the glasses. It is nothing meant at public, it is only for developers, who have bought developer units of the wearable glasses. “We’re looking forward to what developers will do with Glass, but we don’t have more details to share at this time,” said Google.

“We’ll begin the first day with an introduction to Glass. You will have a device to use while on-site. Next we’ll take a look at the Mirror API, which gives you the ability to exchange data and interact with the user over REST,” Google said in its press release.

Can Project Glass Win?
With tech blogs are talking about Google Glass, many analysts question the very need for such a product. It is understandable that the Glasses will have too many amazing features, because it runs on Google Android. Like a smartphone or tablet, it will support variety of apps and features for messaging, video calling, web surfing and more. But, does Google want a standalone wearable device for the purposes. As per Paul Briden, Google could have better developed a head-mounted display with better integration to the existing phones and tablets.

“I can’t help thinking this could’ve just as easily and perhaps more effectively have been achieved by creating Project Glass as a device which synchronizes with existing Android phones – a new, hands-free way of interacting with your phone rather than a replacement,” says Briden. He tries to state that Google could have developed a wearable device that can sync with the phones and tablets. It could be far cheaper and more useful as well.

Google Project Glass is a really an innovative idea. The search giant has coined up such an appliance to let people draw maximum from its other services. Based on Android, the glasses will be a total wearable assistant for a person. Indeed, it can guide you through the best routes thanks to Google Maps, search and watch best videos through YouTube, share images and videos with friends on Google+ and more.

Everything can be done in a matter of time since the device is placed just on your head. As per rumors, Apple and many other tech and gaming companies plan such devices. But, Google’s work for the HMD device is far advanced. If things are going this way, the Redmond software giant may soon bring the product to market for public.
