Ghaziabad, (IANS) The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has issued notice for sealing 59 bank branches which have been found operating from residential premises in the city.
The banks have been given upto September 15 to shift their premises and have been warned that no leniency would be shown after the deadline.
GDA Vice Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav told IANS that the authority was committed to beautify the city, which was only possible if they strictly implemented land usage regulations based on usage categories such as industrial, institutional and commmercial.
“We had given the banks ample time, but they failed to comply with the authority’s instructions. The second grace period has only been granted in view of them being public sector undertakings. The authority remained lenient because welfare policies could be hampered for large sections of society, especially farmers,” said Yadav.
According to GDA Secretary R.K.Singh most of the banks have promised to shift the branches within 45 days, while a few have already shifted to new premises in commercial complexes.
