‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Finale: Why so many slayings were necessary

Game of Thrones season finales are among the best of the best, but what we saw the last night was arguably the best ever even going by the exemplary Games of Thrones standard too.

Nonetheless it was very disappointing to see many top of the line characters facing their nemesis and meeting their ends.

There is no denying the fact that the Game of Thrones fifth season has been one of the deadliest and scariest. How often we actually see our best actors and actresses being removed from the ‘face of the earth’ so easily? Never has any television show done so much injustice to its star-cast by killing and even raping its own star cast –obviously onscreen- than the fifth season of the Game of Thrones.

But there may be some people who will claim that the ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Finale might have been a chance to balance the darkness with a win or two for the good guys—but that isn’t how life in Westeros works. Victories don’t happen just because we deserve them. You need to earn it and alas, the good guys couldn’t earn it. So like the real life.

games of thrones season 5There is no denying the fact that there were not many victories in the finale and the only ones that we can actually call victories were ambiguous at best. Many people are wondering why did Brienne really deserve to kill Stannis, “wounded and weak as he was? His gullibility, his narrow-minded focus on his “destiny,” and what he did to Shireen certainly meant we wanted him to die, but Brienne just strolling in post-battle to deal an easy finishing blow felt anticlimactic. Even Stannis sounds half-bored when he mutters his last words: “Go on, do your duty”, says a report.

People are calling the Sand Snakes, this season’s sorest disappointment. There is no denying the fact that the Prince Oberyn’s bastard daughters were being taken as the most fearsome warriors, but Obara, Tyene, and Nymeria have mostly just been bratty. Throw in this episode’s painful dialogue (“You want a good girl but you need the bad pussy”) and a cowardly final move—the poisoning of an innocent girl—and these women have turned me fully against them. #TeamBronn”.
