Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight May 2: Why they are fighting on doping penalty?

Finally Mayweather seems to have broken the heart of Manny Paccquiao fans by flatly refusing to endorse an anti-doping proposal that Filipino fighter’s camp had come out with. Manny Pacquiao camp had advised that if someone is found using a banned substance in the drug test he will pay $5million as penalty.

The two are set to go for one of the most demanded fights in the history of boxing. Almost every boxing fan belonging to almost every part of the world has always been demanding the two to agree for a fight. After around six years of back and forth negotiations and constant demand when almost everyone thought that it is never going to come, the two have finally agreed to fight. This mega fight is slated to be held on May 2 and observers believe that it is going to generate the largest amount every generated by a boxing event.

Both the boxers are expected to make more than $100 million, though Mayweather is expected to get twenty percent more than Manny Pacquiao.

But there are some bottlenecks that refuse to go. An Associated Press report says that both the boxers have finally agreed to follow to World Anti-Doping Agency rules. This means random, Olympic-styled blood and urine testing will take place before and after the fight to ensure no misuse of illegal substances.

Though every aspect of the fight has been talked about and fixed, the Filipino boxer’s side has demanded an unexpected aforementioned fine to be imposed if either fighter posts a positive result. There are reasons to believe that despite Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser, recently demanding it, Mayweather side is averse to it. “Today we were informed that Mayweather turned down the request”, says Dan Rafael of ESPN.co.uk while talking about the saga.

Reports suggest that Mayweather’s lawyer Jeremiah Reynolds told Manny camp openly that it was not going to be possible. Pacquiao’s representative while talking about the new proposed clause says, “We have no recourse. We can’t force Floyd into something. But we gave them an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is and they wouldn’t…Manny was surprised (Mayweather refused)…He can’t figure out why they wouldn’t agree to it when Floyd is always talking about cleaning up the sport of boxing.”

On the other hand Mayweatehr side says it was unprecedented and idiotic. “It’s obvious he didn’t read the contract. Why would he have his fighter sign something he was not happy with?” said a Manyweather Promoters official.
