Almost every boxing fan across the world is hoping that Floyd Mayweather Jr vs (Manny Pacquiao) Pacman next fight is between them. But money or fear of unknown seems to be in the way of the fight of the decade.
They are the biggest name in the game of boxing of our age. And both of them have ruled the boxing in the last few years. To be true every decade there is one champion or the other who rules the sport. But in the last 8-10 years there have been two boxers who have caught the imagination of a tough game like boxing. Both come from different backgrounds, in fact different continents and both have very different style. They have beaten almost all the top boxers in the world of the time and both are ready to do so despite being 35 or 36 year old.
Despite their advancing age they are more than a handful for their youthful, bigger and obviously more fight ready younger opponents. Age doesn’t seem to have affected these two guys even a bit. Manny Pacquiao in one fight went down but Floyd Mayweather Jr hasn’t tested defeat even a single time in his professional boxing life.
The most anticipated adversary for Manny Pacquiao is Floyd Mayweather, but the fight is not realistic as it would mean an end to all the interest in both the boxers owing to the anticipation. However, Pacquiao is a top rated boxer and there are many other realistic options for him to fight to maintain his pay-per-view value. Here are some of them:
He can fight Timothy Bradley again to right the wrong that the judges slapped on him in 2012. In that fight in Las Vegas Bradley scored an incredibly controversial split decision win. The victory was illegitimate in public’s eyes and a rematch would enjoy great hype and anticipation. Bradley, though, had a great 2013, with a Fight of the Year-level win over Ruslan Provodnikov followed by a clean and clear victory against Juan Manuel Marquez. Those two may rematch one another, but Pacquiao is still the bigger money for Bradley and the fight I think that would mean more for his standing with the public if he could notch a true win. Speaking of money…
Juan Manuel Marquez is not interested in a fifth fight with Pacquiao so he is out. Ruslan Provodnikov is another good option but he fights out of Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym, thus sharing a training team with Pacquiao. If Provodnikov is inclined for this fight, he will have to leave off Roach’s Wild Card Gym. Pacquiao can also fight Yuriorkis Gamboa, a mediocre featherweight fighter pretending to be a lightweight. It would do Manny good to get a sacrificial goat once in a while, as situation in the top rank does not offer him too many options. Other names that Pacquiao can take a pick from are Luis Carlos Abregu, Jessie Vargas, Khabib Allakhverdiev, Kell Brook, Karim Mayfield and Mike Alvarado.
