FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 soccer: USA beats Colombia to enters quarter-finals, to face China

It was a tough match for the Team USA despite the fact that many had said that it was going to be a cakewalk. The US team had to work hard to ensure a 2-0 win for a side that is ranked lowest among the soccer playing nations who are part of the FIFA Women’s soccer world cup 2015.

And then too, it had to thank a red card against the stand in goal keeper to ensure the two goals it was able to come out with. A regular goalkeeper for the side would have ensured that the team US went goalless in the match.

While they are ruing the lost opportunity, the US coach said that a win was a win and they need to celebrate it. But the US women’s soccer team actually lost midfielders Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Holiday for the crucial tie against China as both were shown second yellow card of the tournament.soccer world cup women team USA

The next match is going to be far more difficult for the US. In the match against China, the US soccer team will be playing without the services of starting midfielders Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Holiday, who received their second yellow cards of the tournament and must serve one-game suspensions. It will be see as to how the team fend off the threat from Chinese side with or without an effective attack. After winning the match an overjoyed Rapinoe said “It’s getting there…I thought there was a lot better things going on. We keep growing with each game and keep getting better. Of course, we still want to be flying at everybody and win 5-0, but these teams are good and we can’t just walk over these teams.”

The team is going to be under pressure without the two. Holiday was shown a yellow card Monday in the first half against Colombia in a Women’s World Cup match in Edmonton, Canada. She was earlier shown the yellow card in an earlier match against Australia, which means that it will not be possible for Holiday to play in America’s next match. Morgan netted her first goal of the tournament in her second start.
