But great gifts shouldn’t always be too expensive. Here we have brought a list of great smartphone that despite being great don’t cost too much. So you can just walk to the nearby stores and get hold of any of the following handsets that will not be a big burden on your pocket but will make your father really, really very happy.

There can be all sorts of gifts that you can get for your father on this important day, when every father wants to be remembered, to be visited by his sons and daughters and loves to touch and feel them and to know that they really care for him. If you can afford get him the costliest gift, but if you cannot and you still want to give him a decent smartphone that will make him really happy, here are my picks for the occasion.

HTC Desire C priced at $169 is a fabulous handset. There is no doubt about it. It is a mid 2012 Android phone that is still getting good response. HTC has no more budget phones with better repute. The Desire C is up with tiny 3.5-inch display with a nice resolution and is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7225A Snapdragon CPU, 512MB RAM and Adreno 200. For storing data, you have 4GB internal memory and a microSD for expanding. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich of now, and is sadly not upgradeable to Jelly Bean.

HTC Desire X priced at $314 contract free is another very good handset that can be gifted to your father. Desire X is yet another entry level HTC phone you can find on shelves. It is also a mid 2012 handset with some cool specs. The Desire X sports a 4-in Super LCD display, and it draws power from a 1GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon CPU, 768MB RAM and Adreno 203 GPU. It also has 4GB of internal memory with microSD slot. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the current OS, and it is not clear if it will get Jelly bean.

Sony Xperia E at $152 is very affordable and very impressive handset. The Xperia E is a nice product from the Japan tech maker. As an upgrade to Xperia Tipo entry level phone, Sony has come up with Xperia E and E dual in many markets. It is up with a 3.5-inch TFT display, 1GHz Cortex-A5 CPU (Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon), 512MB RAM and an Adreno 200 graphical processor. Interestingly, it runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Sony Xperia U priced $225 is somewhat costlier than Sony Xperia E, nonetheless it is a top handset right now. This last year Sony low price Android phone still attracts customers. It is a cool Xperia handset that sports a 3.5-inch display, a NovaThor U8500 dual core (1GHz) CPU, 512MB RAM and a Mali-400 GPU. It has a 5MP rear camera as well as a VGA front camera. The Xperia U landed in stores with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box and later it got the flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich. No further OS updates will be there.

Nokia Lumia 520 priced at $219 is certainly a very impressive handset that he will certainly love. This is the cheapest variant of Nokia’s renowned Lumia series of Windows Phone 8. Well, the entry level WP 8 handset sports a 4-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. A 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8227 dual core CPU, 512MB RAM and Adreno 305 GPU power the device.
