Donald Trump for President 2016: campaign manager Corey Lewandowski gets Republican front runner’s support
Washington: Donald Trump has said that he will defend his campaign manager no matter what it takes. He was also full of praise for his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, saying he will never stop backing people who have been with him and went on to call him a “very decent man”.
The Republican frontrunner went on to add that Corey Lewandowski has a family to support and he will stand with him and his family at this time of crisis.
Donald Trump, a real estate baron who is the front runner to win Republican nomination said “I don’t discard people. I stay with people”. 42-year-old Lewandowski has been charged with battery in Florida for allegedly grabbing a reporter and taking her away from Trump. He faces one misdemeanor count of battery as a result of the March 8 incident. Lewandowski on Tuesday appeared before the police in Jupiter, Fla., and signed paperwork ordering him to appear in court May 4.
In the meantime police officials have come out with a new and more clear picture of the incident. The video has been taken from the security cameras at Trump’s own golf club. The video contradicts what Trump and Lewandowski said about the incident in the past. The duo has claimed that the reporter, Michelle Fields, was never touched by Lewandoski but the video clearly shows him grabbing the reporter hard enough to pull her backward.
There are reasons to believe that Trump’s refusal to sack Lewandoski has backfired as the incident has now turned into a criminal incident and the video clearly highlighted how the two have disregarded the truth. “How do you know those bruises weren’t there before? I’m not a lawyer,” Trump told reporters on his plane, referring to bruises which were shown by Fields to the police. “Wouldn’t you think she would have yelled out a scream or something if she has bruises on her arm?”
While talking to Fox News, Trump said that Lewandowski was just protecting him against a potential, unidentified threat. “She grabbed me and she had something in her hand. I don’t know what it was. It looked like it could have been a pen. But you know, from the standpoint of where we are, who knows what it is,” he said.
