Dept of Petroleum Studies organizes Oil and Gas Conservation fortnight

Aligarh: In a valedictory ceremony during the Oil and Gas Conservation fortnight (ONGCF), Aligarh Muslim University’s Department of Petroleum Studies distributed prizes to the winners of poster-making, essay writing and power point presentation competitions to various school students.

The winners, who are students of Aligarh based schools including the AMU run schools were felicitated with trophies and certificates by Department of Petroleum Studies Chairman, Professor Mohd Kamil. Meanwhile, Dr Javed Rizvi, Dr Najam Sardar and Mrs Moina Athar also distributed prizes to the school students.

In the poster making competition, Hasan Iftham and Md Razaullah Farooqi of St. Fidelis Senior Sec. School and Umar Moin of Ayesha Tarin Modern Public School bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.

Ahmad Ozair of Senior Sec School Boys, AMU, Zafar Sadiq Riviera of M U College and Amna Syed of AMU Girl’s High school got the first, second and third prizes in power point presentation competition.

The winners were also taken on a tour of Department of Petroleum Studies’s industrial level laboratories where they were given a first-hand experience of various experiments, which are conducted to determine fuel quality, and methods used for fractionation of crude.

The entire tour was aimed at educating students about the back stage scenario of the fuels used at home and vehicles. The enthusiasm of their parents and participants alike made the campaign a huge success. The valedictory ceremony of Oil and Gas Conservation fortnight (ONGCF) was hosted as a campaign to create awareness of gradually depleting natural resources and methods to conserve them at consumer level.

Dr Ashraf Mateen (faculty in-charge) and Coordinators, Miss Maham Malik, Mr Mukarram Beg, Mr Moin Mohammad, Mr Hasan Babar and Mr Shahzen Khan headed ONGCF. The organizers had also displayed banners in the petrol pumps and gas stations of Aligarh.
