Cynthia Lennon, Beatles John Lennon’s 1st wife dead, was not prepared for ‘sudden stardom’
Cynthia Lennon is no more. The first wife of the Beatles’ John Lennon, who married thrice breathed her last at her home in Mallorca, Spain.
The 75-year old Cynthia Lennon wouldn’t have remained in memories of the masses had she not penned down two memoirs of her troubled relationship with her ex-husband John Lennon.
It is simply amazing as to why she continued to keep Lennon in her name despite separating her husband some 48 years ago, in 1968.
Cynthia Lennon was reportedly suffering from cancer and this was the cause of her death. But not much was heard about her illness before her sad demise. Many reports make it look that while her future husband Lennon was exuberant and outgoing young man, she was out and out a serious and studious young girl. Reports suggest that Lennon was studying at the Liverpool College of Art when they met first.
She herself said that her husband was a rebel while she was different. Despite having very different personalities the two worked really hard to come together. While she renounced her engagement, he left his then girlfriend to embrace her. She goes on to add that the two married when she got pregnant in the year 1962. They got married on Aug. 23, a few weeks prior to the Beatles recorded their first single, “Love Me Do.â€
Their marriage couldn’t continue as she said that she was not prepared for the same that followed their first album’s success. “I didn’t marry a Beatle…“I married a broke student who played the guitar and ponced all my grant money off meâ€, she told The Independent. Their son was born in April 1963, as Beatlemania was spreading across England.
One aspect of their marriage that may be very interesting to millions of people is the way Brian Epstein, the Beatles’ manager, hid the fact that Lennon was married and had a son to make him seem available to the legions of young women obsessed with him.
